One area of research concerns the nature of implicit biases. Philosophers of mind have done a great deal of work on the nature of beliefs and other related states, and it is not yet clear how implicit biases should fit into these categorisations. Both philosophers of mind and philosophers of science have developed a range of quite sophisticated conceptions of the nature of biases, and one goal of the project will be to explore the best way to conceptualise implicit biases in the available frameworks. Implicit biases are also often said to be automatic, inaccessible to introspection, and unconscious. Philosophers have also done considerable work teasing apart and analysing thee notions, and this work will be important to a full philosophical understanding of implicit biases.
